Bike Machines

We are the Bike Machine design team of the Working Bikes Cooperative. Please share your progress with us and, remember, there are no dumb questions!

As promised we are providing instructions and parts lists for some of the machines that we take to energy fairs, green festivals and street fairs.

Photos will soon follow but please start acquiring the parts. You will need: Schwinn exercise bike or 26" wheel bike, DC permanent magnet motor, sheave, V-belt and some L-channel.

120 VDC Bike Generator Instructions

120 Volt DC Bike Generator Instructions and Parts

The easiest starting point is by using a Schwinn Exercise bike. These can be found on Craig's list, garage sales or at resale shops. You should be able to get one for less than $50. The advantage of the Schwinn exercise bike is the large chain ring at the crank can get as high as 4000 rpm at the shaft of the generator.
