September 13 – North Branch Trail Grand Opening

The long-anticipated link between the Green Bay Trail and the North Branch Trail, this multi-use path passes through the Garden’s McDonald Woods and Turnbull Woods, which is part of the Forest Preserves of Cook County. In partnership with the Illinois Department of Transportation and the Forest Preserves of Cook County, the Garden has created this beautiful, safe, and accessible trail. Look for interpretive signs describing the moraine, wetland, and woodland regions of the Garden’s landscape. We’ll celebrate with festivities for all.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony will be at 2:30 p.m. Sophia Shaw, president and CEO of the Garden, will be joined by special guest Arnold Randall, general superintendent of the Forest Preserves of Cook County, to do the honors.

The Festival Area will be at the end point of the trail (across from the McDonald Woods pavilion) with several vendors, information tables, and snacks. Look for Working Bikes to learn a bit about our work or take a spin on our record-playing bike machine.

Event goes from 2-4pm. You can read more about the trail and the opening celebration here on the Botanic Gardens website.
