Don’t Sell It – Why You Should Donate Your Bike

Why donate your bike?

We know you could re-sell it, gift it to a friend, or even just throw it away, but we hope you’ll donate your bike to Working Bikes instead. And here are 3 reasons why you should:

1) It will change the life of someone in need – Working Bikes can use the bicycles you are looking to sell or discard to change the life of an individual. In a developing country, a bicycle can help provide access to jobs, education, medical attention, and other resources. Globally, Working Bikes ships thousands of bicycles each year to our partners in countries throughout Latin America and Africa. Locally, Working Bikes donates to individuals and partner organizations here in Chicago, providing transportation to people in homeless transition, refugee resettlement, and youth empowerment programs in our own community.

2) It’s free and easy – We’ve got drop off locations throughout Chicagoland, and as far as Iowa, Indiana, Michigan, and Wisconsin. If you have 5+ bikes or are unable to move them give us a call at 773-847-5440 to arrange a pick up from your home, apartment building, or business.

3) It’s tax deductible – Save money while you help your community by increasing your charitable donations this year. As a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization all donations to Working Bikes are tax deductible. When you donate your bike, simply email us at donations@workingbikes.org to get a receipt for your tax deductible contribution, which you can use to claim the value of your bike.
