On Wednesday, December 10, Working Bikes will load a container for our partner, the El Salvadoran Center for Appropriate Technology (CESTA), in El Salvador. We need your help!
To help out at the last “shipping party” of 2014, swing by the Working Bikes warehouse at 2434 S. Western Ave. in Chicago anytime between 12 and 5pm. As a volunteer you’ll be wheeling bikes to the truck, removing pedals, and turning handlebars so we can fit as many bikes as possible.
No experience necessary. All volunteers will receive lunch and something sweet (donuts or pastries). Be sure to wear close-toed shoes, gloves, and warm layers. We’ll be working indoors and outdoors, so it’ll be a bit cold!
CESTA is an organization dedicated to environmental conservation, sustainable transportation and community-based resource management in El Salvador. CESTA’s programs include a bicycle mechanics training program for youth, mangrove conservation that focuses on community land management, disability rights advocacy, traditional medicine research and education, and environmental conflict mediation supporting communities that are in conflict with multinational companies over community land exploitation and environmental contamination. Learn more and check out videos about CESTA from our friends at Bikes Not Bombs.
